Not long ago I heard a "christian" girl say
That she could drink booze and live life her way
And it didn't matter, whatever she did
Since Jesus had died and paid for her sin
She'll quickly claim Ephesians 2:8 & 9
But don't give her verse 10-it might blow her mind!
Yes she tells me she's saved and yet, nontheless,
I ask her-do you profess or posess?
And then there's the man on his way to a bar
He stopped by the streetpreachers-"how crazy they are!"
"Don't you know we're not saved by works?
If works don't save, what would we work for?
Christ has already paid our sin debt
So let's see how big of a debt we can get!"
He knew God was with him, he said, and yet
He'd go to the bar (to enlarge his debt)
Yes he tells me he's saved, and yet, nontheless,
I ask him-do you profess or posess?
Then there was a trio we met on the street
Oh what nice people, so good and so sweet
Don't get me wrong, these people were saved
Members of a christian motorcycle gang!
They said they were seperate from the world
(At least in their hearts they were close to the Lord)
They said no one's good-everyone, everywhere
Will sin-maybe that's why he had long hair!
Yes they say they're saved and yet, nontheless,
I ask them-do you profess or posess?
Yes, so many people tell me they're saved
But it doesn't matter that Christ's life He gave
I hope that you, christian sister or brother
Live wholly for Jesus, unlike so many others
But just in case you're not truly God's child
I'll ask you this question-it's really quite mild
Yes you tell me you're saved and yet, nontheless,
I ask you-do you profess or posess?
By Hope Lyman
